Giulia Maria Crespi Woodland

Beppe Sala, current Mayor of Milan, was among the first signatories of the weTree pact.

At BAM – Biblioteca degli Alberi Milano (Library of Trees in Milan) – iODonna, the women’s weekly magazine of “Corriere della Sera”, directed by Danda Santini, and weTree Association will dedicate to Giulia Maria Crespi Mozzoni a circular forest, adopting 19 Pinus Nigra. An urban woodland as a tribute to a great woman and to her immense and continuous commitment for culture and environment.

weTree President Ilaria Borletti Buitoni said: “
After the STEM Woodland, weTree enters the heart of Milan with a project at BAM that wants to emphasize the fundamental contribution of women to the wellbeing of the community. Giulia Maria Crespi, founder of Fondo Ambientale Italiano (FAI), is an extraordinary example of this new paradigm which balances nature and human activities. We are glad of this collaboration with iODonna and of this venture that led to the joint project at BAM. A female “network” for a common vision of a new Green Deal ”.

Dedicated to

  • Giulia Maria Crespi Mozzoni is an exponent of the Lombard bourgeoisie that has contributed since the post-war period to make Milan a great European City. Until 1974 with “Corriere della Sera” and later as an important shareholder of the Espresso Repubblica group, she was a prominent figure in the Italian publishing and media world. In 1974 she founded with Renato Bazzoni the National Trust of Italy, Fondo Ambientale Italiano, to safeguard the historical and natural heritage of the country on the model of the British National Trust. FAI counts today over 200 thousand members. Pioneer of organic farming and environmental protection in Italy, she obtained many awards and her name is inscribed in a cenotaph at the Famedio of Milano. With her courage and determination, she was a point of reference for the battles against abusiveness, pesticides and any action that might damage the Italian natural heritage.
